Our Accomplishments
2023 New Mexico Legislative Wins:
- $100 million for economic transition initiatives.
- $200,000 for unemployment expansion feasibility study.
- $309 million for early childhood education and child care assistance programs.
- Tax Rebates for new Mexicans; $500 for singe filers and $1,000 for joint filers.
- Expanded tax credit of up to $600 per child.
Raising the State’s minimum wage: Statewide minimum wage was increased from $7.50 to $11.50, with an end amount of $12 by 2023.
Paid sick leave: Workers in New Mexico can now earn paid sick leave. All workers will earn 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked up to 8 days per year.
Economic relief: Multiple rounds of statewide economic assistance for struggling families that face economic hardship because of the pandemic and inflation.
Tax rebates: Increased tax credits and rebates for struggling families including immigrant ITIN filers.
Standard DL: We revamped licenses to ensure everyone has access to a New Mexico standard driver’s license.
Somos el Mapa: After the 2020 census we worked to redraw and reshape New Mexico’s congressional map allowing for a more inclusive democracy for workers and rural communities.
Sustainable Economy Task force: An act that creates a State task force to ensure a just transition to clean energy for frontline workers and families.
Get-out-the-vote: Somos Acción reached out to 125,000 infrequent and “low-information” voters in 8 counties in the 2020 and 2022 elections through door knocking, phone banking, and direct mail.
